In partnership with New York Deaf Theatre, Kaiser’s Room has developed unique performing arts programming to serve participants of all ages who identify as d/Deaf and having additional cognitive/intellectual disabilities.
Kaiser's Room has partnered with New York Deaf Theatre to create brand new arts programming designed for students who are d/Deaf and have additional disabilities. The classes will follow Kaiser's Room's model of creating connection through imaginative play, but adapted by New York Deaf Theatre to specifically serve this demographic of the d/Deaf community. A process paper on this experience was published in September 2020 in Odyssey Magazine, Gallaudet University’s main research publication.
After a successful pilot period early in 2020, we have now launched our digital Deaf Plus Classes in Theater/Movement with New York Deaf Theatre for students who are d/Deaf Plus, at Saint Francis deSales School for the Deaf.
